Term 4, Weeks 1 & 2
Dear parents,
Term 4 begins on Monday! It is hard to
believe there is only 9 weeks left of Year 2 before the long holidays begin and
Christmas not far behind! I hope you had a relaxing break and found time to enjoy
some beautiful spring weather.

Year 2 Cultural Excursion - Meelup
Year Two children will be going on an
excursion to Meelup Beach with Josh Whiteland on Monday, 23 October. The
children will experience the Meelup Walk and storytelling of Mammung the Whale.
Permission slips will be sent home this week. Please sign and send back to
school as soon as possible.
Mass (week 2)
On Wednesday (18.10.23), our class will be walking to Our Lady of the Southern Cross for Mass commencing at 9:30am. You are welcome to join us for this event if you would like. We will return to school before recess on that day.
Christmas Card Competition
The Hon. Nola Marino is inviting all Year 1 and 2 students to draw their creation for her Christmas card, which will be sent out to local businesses in the area. Your child will come home with an entry form in their reading folder. You will notice we have already prefilled the school details, this is to help us get the participation certificates to all the entrants. All the details and requirements are listed on the form, please note that entries close on Friday the 10th of November 2023. Entries can be returned to the office by hand, by use of the Reply-Paid details on the form or via email at nola.marino.mp@aph.gov.au. The winner will be announced shortly after entries close.
Keeping Safe
This term, the children will continue learning about Protective Behaviours through the program Keeping Safe. This term, the program includes talking about personal space and body parts. We will be reading stories and emphasising the fact that all parts of their body are private. Some children may laugh and giggle when we talk about the anatomical names, but this is important for every child to know the correct anatomical names. Children will be leaning at an age and developmentally appropriate level:
• the concept of personal space and how this is
different for different people
• correct anatomical names of sexual body parts
• the whole body is private
• appropriate and inappropriate touching
Recent research shows that knowing the anatomically correct language terms enhances children’s body image, self-confidence, and openness.
This is in conjunction with the Child Protection Curriculum which has been mandated in all schools in Western Australia.
Below is an extract from the lesson ‘1.3 Parts of
the Body’.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email
me.
This will be celebrated on Friday, 3 November. Please encourage your child to invite their grandparents. Further details about the day will follow soon!
