Term 4, Weeks 7 & 8
Dear parents,
Week 7 is here already! The term is flying by.
Christmas Concert Costume – Wednesday 29 November
The Christmas Concert this year is on Wed Nov 29 in Week 8 is a funny nativity play called 'Straw and Order' and will include classes PP-Y5. Each year group will have a few students acting but the whole year group will have a song to sing so all will be involved. Y6 will lead us in a Christmas Medley at the end.
Yr 2 Sheep: White T shirt, plain black or white
shorts with headband with ears (cotton wool on ears only, too messy on t
shirts.. it goes everywhere!)
Janet King
Below are our Fluency grids, spelling lists and
focus sounds for weeks 7 and 8.
English:
This week we are learning the sound 'au' as in
autumn, 'aw' as in claw, 'or' as in sport and 'ore' as in store. This
fortnight's tricky words are words that have been previously taught, and the
children will benefit from revising further. This fortnight’s tricky words are:
women, believe, many, saw, favourite and before.
Maths
Last week, we started to learn all about column
addition, split strategy (addition only) and the jump strategy. Please see below some examples
of how to use these strategies. We would love if you could practice these with
your child at home.
We will be reviewing money as a few students need to continue working on the skill of calculating change. Below is a link that may be of interest:

Elderly Pen Pals
This fortnight, we will begin creating some
Christmas cards to send to our elderly pen pals. The children have loved
hearing from some of their pen pals throughout the year and it has been a great
way to be involved in the Dunsborough community.
Semester Two Reports
Our Semester Two reports grading align with the
Western Australian curriculum and achievement standards for Year 2. We
encourage you to read the first opening page of the report which explains what
each grade letter means in association with the SCSA WA curriculum rather than
thinking about the grade letters we used to receive in our schooling
years. A 'C grade' on your child's report is likened to an average
achievement grade and relates to the majority of the WA Year 2 population
achievement/progression level of the curriculum. Reports also include their
personal values and attitudes towards their learning. If your child
receives a 'C' grade, this is the expected level of achievement.
Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal
Each year at OLC we take time to be thankful for
our blessings and to assist those in need by contributing to Christmas Hampers distributed by the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Boxes
are located in each classroom and families are invited to
contribute specified items. The Year 2 classes are asked to donate pantry items
such as: tinned foods, pasta, rice, biscuits, crackers, sauces, jams and
other non-perishable food, which can be used beyond Christmas.
Dance Concert
A big thank you goes to Ellie Haines for a wonderful dance concert. The children from 2N did a great job as the opening act. Well done everyone! A video of the dance was posted on Seesaw on Friday afternoon.
