Term 1, Weeks 5 & 6

Good afternoon parents,

I hope you had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the sunshine. Who can believe it is the last weekend of summer already? 😎

Just a few pieces of information for week five...

Homework

Today we sent home the Year Two fluency grid with this fortnights focus sounds and tricky words. Have a look at our last blog post which shows you how you can use this at home to increase your child's reading fluency. We have also included all of the spelling lists for your information on the back of the fluency grid. The pink list 💓 is the target for Year Two from our InitiaLit program. Please feel free to use these lists at home to increase your child's spelling abilities. Have a look at our Fluency grids and spelling lists below to see our focus sounds 🤓

Friendology

This week we will be starting our Friendology lessons as a year two cohort. We will be learning about the four friendship facts and how we can be a good friend. Have a look below at the four facts we will revise each week.

If you would like, we also have a FREE parent sign up (as we are a Friendology school) which provides some wonderful language and skills you can use at home to help your child through any friendship issues they may be having. Click on the link below to become a URstrong family!

 New Murals

The old murals in the undercover area are being replaced by new murals which have been designed and created by artist Andrew Fraser (who gave each class an art lesson last week). The artworks are designed to reflect the indigenous colours of our surrounds and our Catholic identity. Andrew has been commissioned by the P&F. Stay tuned for the changes in the coming weeks.

Before School
Students that arrive before 8.25am are required to sit in the quadrangle by the office and Year 2 classrooms, please advise your child of this change.

Science

The children have loved going to science lessons with Mrs Coltrinari over the last few weeks and have participated in a few hands on experiments where the kids made ooblek and learnt about different materials and their properties that included heating, cooling, mixing and exploding 🌋

Seesaw

We loved sharing what we learnt from our Place Value assessment on Seesaw last week! Please take the time to leave a comment on your child's work. Keep an eye out for a reading post that will be coming in the following weeks!

Class Reps

We are looking for 1-2 class reps per class. Please contact us directly if this is something you would be interested in.

Character Strengths

Parents, this week we are looking at developing the character strength of Creativity. St Cecilia was known for her musical abilities. She also loved to paint, as well as sing and play music. St Cecilia is why music is such a central part of the liturgy today. Do you come up with lots of different and individual ideas? Are you a problem solver? Do you have a magnificent imagination?
