Term 2, Weeks 3 & 4, 2023

Good afternoon, Parents.

I hope you’ve had restful weekend. A lot of information is covered in this blog, which I hope you find helpful.

Monday Morning with Yr 6 Sport Rangers

6M Sport Rangers have organised some fun sporting activities for 2N on Monday mornings from 8.40 to 9am.

Help with Creating Resources

Thank you to Yr 2M for putting the maths packs that we will all be using. I need a couple of parents from 2N to assemble the last 10 packs for our class. It is an easy task, and if you can help on Thursday this week at 2pm, I would be grateful.

Book Fair 2023
You probably would have already seen the posters around the school. The book fair will take place Tuesday and Wednesday in Week 4 (16th & 17th May). Opening times for parents/grandparents to come are:
Tue 8- 8.30 am and 3-4pm
Wed 8-8.30 am & 3-3.30pm

As well as being open during the above hours, the book fair will also be open to the students during lunch time. There will be a simple competition ALL students can enter, not just the those who buy a book. There will be one winner per year group, and they will be able to choose a book to keep. OLC gets a commission from all books sold – we can get it as books from the fair for the library, some scholastic points to spend at the Scholastic shop later in the year or a cash amount that can be spent at local bookshops.

Homework

Below are our Fluency grids, spelling lists and focus sounds for weeks 3 and 4.

Learning Intentions

English:

This week we are learning the spelling sounds 'oa' as in float, 'ow' as in snow, 'ue' as in blue & 'ew' as in grew. The tricky words for this fortnight are – woman, different, friend, home.

We have now finished our unit of work on the text genre narrative and will now focus on the text genre of information reports.

 Maths:

This week, we have begun focusing on time. We will be revising time concepts that were taught in Year One - this includes reading and creating o'clock and half past, on an analogue clock, digitally, and in words. Please revise this at home. Below are some YouTube sites that you may find helpful:

The expectation for Year Two within the Measurement Strand is:

  • Tell time to the quarter-hour, using the language of 'past' and 'to' (ACMMG039)

We will be exploring the concept of time using analogue and digital clock faces, and the use of words to describe times such as, quarter past and quarter to. Below are some YouTube sites that you may find helpful:

 Character Strengths:

Parents, this week we are looking at developing the character strength of Judgement.

St Alphonsus left his career as a lawyer to follow God. St Alphonsus was a practical person, who dealt with the concrete and not the abstract.

• Do you think things through?
• Are you open-minded and think about all sides of a situation?

I would like to wish everyone a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday 14th.

Maree Noonan
