Term 2, Weeks 5 & 6

Dear Parents,

I hope you have had a restful weekend and found some time to enjoy the beautiful weather before it rains again later in the week.

2N Prayer Assembly

2N prayer assembly will be on Friday 23rd June at 2.15pm. We hope you can make it. The class will be wearing their school uniform as it is not a performance assembly, so no arguments at home about they want to wear! Each child will have a chance to speak. If you already know your child will not be at school on that date, please let me know.

Help with Creating Resources

Thank you to Bree and Dean Boyatzis for threading the last of the beads for our class. I need a couple of parents from 2N to place maths resources into 10 pencil cases for our class. It is an easy task, and if you can help on any morning next week, I would be grateful.

Homework

Below are our Fluency grids, spelling lists and focus sounds for weeks 5 and 6.

Learning Intentions

English:

This week we are learning the spelling sounds 'igh' as in light, 'ie' as in pie and 'y' as in cry. The tricky words for this fortnight are - who, people, something, what.

Last week, we focused on learning the difference between a fact and an opinion. We learnt that a fact is something that can be proven to be true, and an opinion is what someone thinks or feels. This week we will be continuing our focus on the text genre of information reports. We will be using the below article about a hybrid animal known as the Sharkgull as the mentor text.

We have also been learning within the InitaLit program the difference between an imaginative text and an informative text.

Maths:

This week, we will continue to focus on reading and creating time on analogue and digital clocks, using the language of 'past' and 'to'.

Week 6 will see us start to focus on 2D and 3D shapes. This includes identifying how many sides/faces, corners, and edges of different 2D and 3D shapes have. We will also identify that some 3D shapes have a surface. Below are a couple of YouTube links that may be of interest to you.
