Term 2, Weeks 7 & 8

Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the extra-long weekend.

2N Prayer Assembly

2N’s prayer assembly will be on Friday 23rd June at 2.15pm. We hope you can make it. The class will be wearing their school uniform as it is not a performance assembly, so no arguments at home about they want to wear! Each child will have a chance to speak. If you already know your child will not be at school on that date, please let me know.

Homework

Below are our Fluency grids, spelling lists and focus sounds for weeks 5 and 6.

Learning Intentions

English:

This week we are learning the spelling sounds 'oa' as in goat, 'ow' as in blow and 'ue' as in true and 'ew' as in new. The tricky words for this fortnight are - caught, really, bought, animal.

We have been learning that informative texts can not only be about animals but can also be about people, things, places and events. This week we will continue our text innovation of our mentor text 'The Sharkgull'. The children have created their very own hybrid animal and have started to write their informative text, using Sharkgull as a guide.

We have also been learning within the InitaLit program the difference between an imaginative text, informative text and a persuasive text.

Maths

Last week, we looked at 2D and 3D shapes. We focused on how to draw different shapes and identifying the features of a given shape - faces, corners and edges. We will be continuing this focus for the remainder of Week 7.

In Week 8, we will begin to look at chance. We will be learning to:

  • Identify practical activities and everyday events that involve chance. Describe outcomes as ‘likely’ or ‘unlikely’ and identify some events as ‘certain’ or ‘impossible’ (ACMSP047)

Please continue to practice telling time to the quarter hours and ask your child to explain their reasoning. For example:

·         I know it is quarter to 5 or 4:45 because the minute hand is on the 9, which is the quarter to position, and the hour hand is nearly at the 5.

·         The minute hand has moved 45 minutes since 4 o'clock.

·         It is 15 minutes before 5 o’clock.
